Goodbye 2016, Helloooooooo 2017

With all the bullshit of fresh starts, being thank full for the previous year, as well as the excuse for a good piss up. What I do look back on, and look forward to?

2016 was a great year for me, it was the probably the first time in a long time I set myself goals. I’m very proud to say I’ve achieved them. So right now am very excited for 2017 to continue this momentum. Now every year and I sit down and say to myself “Darren stop sleeping around and put some effort into dating.” And I can honestly say I did that this year. But that t wasn’t the most important thing for me to do.

New Friends

You’ve always got Ur best core friends that have been there for years, you’ve always got friends you work with, but I felt after a 3 years in Brighton I needed more friends I could socialize with. Now I did everything from join work networks, Yelp, and even Grindr. Yes people you can talk to guys on grindr without sending dick pics. I really feel blessed with the people I’ve met and now call my good friends, looking forward to more adventures in 2017 with them.

This year I was really proud of sticking to my gym goals, myself and my trainer Matt really turned it around. I managed to lose weight and keep it off, as well as looking at diet and lifestyle. The one thing I really enjoyed this year was toning up and building up muscle, or penis arms as I like to call it. More to come in 2017.

Work and Career

In my day job at American Express I’ve had a great year, and my bosses are very pleased with my work. I’ve become an event planner as well as mentoring people. I really pleased with this. Now the other work achievement is this blog. Its been something I’ve been thinking about doing all year so finally to get this off the ground was a big achievement.

2017 here I come

As I write this I’m very excited with the news that Steps reformed last night, it’s not quite the Spice Girls Reunion but it will do. 2017 is going to be an exciting year, there are a few things I want to make sure I complete, as well as finishing previous goals.

GYM – 5 stone in 1 year

MONEY – Learn to save

FRIENDS – Book events and holidays

GEEK – Comic Con, Insurgence 9, Heroes and Villains Fest

ME – Have no regrets and not to settle

Hmmmm so it’s not a bad list. The gym goal I really want this year to be the last year I focus on how much I weigh, I want to enjoy life and maintain myself so whatever I weigh end of 2017 I’m happy with that. I’ve got a great support network around me that will help me achieve my goals, Matt and my friend Damian as well as friends who say the loveliest things when the results show.

Now the worst thing about me I think, is I have never learnt to appreciate the value of money, let alone save. So definitely this year I will be making steps to change this. I want to be able to not to worry about a rainy day or if I want to book things have the funds ready.

And for me, of course I will continue with dating, looking after myself.  But just because I’m a year older, doesn’t mean I have to settle? Someone said to me recently “come on Darren, tick tock .” I’m putting myself out there everyday, if meet the right guy so be it, but I’m not desperate. I’m still looking forward to sleazy nights with the wrong guys, I don’t wanna lose all the fun in 2017 lol. Boy got to eat.

But 2017 is going to be brilliant.

Darren Goodwin
