Remembrance Of The Daleks was the 1st Doctor Who I could remember from memory, and always is 1st place within my top 1o best Doctor Who ever. I want to take a trip down memory lane looking at my top three scenes.
I can remember flashes of Colin Bakers era, Davros getting his hand blown off and The Master appearing at doctor’s Trial. But it was Remembrance that sticks in my mind, as well as getting my first blank video to record things on especially for this story. Before watching this story, I had only really watched the Peter Cushing Dalek movies, so this was my main motivation to watching it. But the one thing I remember clearly was connecting with Sylvester McCoy’s 7th Doctor, which kept me watching even after this story had finished.
Watching the story as an adult I’ve picked up a lot of sub plots and meanings, something I couldn’t understand as a child. The racial conflict between the Imperial Daleks and the Renegades, I always thought why are the Daleks shooting at each other? The story being extremely connected to the first ever Doctor Who story, with Coal Hill school, Totters Lane. And the terrible acting of the little girl playing the Dalek Battle Computer.
But here are my top 3 moments.
1. The Daleks can now climb stairs!
Forget the 2005 episode “Dalek”, this was the first time a Dalek climbed the stairs to a horrified Doctor. One of the best cliff hangers of the season.
2. The Special Weapons Dalek.
If you look at a lot of different Dalek stories over the years, there is always a new element of something different the Daleks are doing. In The Chase the Daleks had new sensor arms instead of suckers, Dalek Invasion of Earth the Daleks rising out of the water ect. In Remembrance we had the Special Weapons Dalek. An improved design from Davros, allows this unit to inflict massive damage to multiple targets.
3. The Last Dalek.
Even when I was younger my favourite Dalek was the Black Dalek. Always so striking commanded the Dalek grunts around him. Later I learned to call the Black Dalek the Supreme Dalek, or Dalek Supreme. I really like how years later they have really developed the Dalek Supreme character, making him arrogant and pompous. But this scene where the Doctor uses logic to defeat the Dalek Supreme making him self destruct.
