Happy Star Wars day everyone! As Star Wars celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year, I wanted to look at the iconic movies and tell you my most favourite moments.

I can remember being very young when I saw my first Star Wars film, I’m pretty sure it was Return Of The Jedi but I can’t quite remember, but I was bowled over by this magical adventure. I had already been exposed to Daleks and Doctor Who, so this was an extension of that. As I grew up I always really enjoyed the villains of the piece, they had to be power full empires – no pun intended. First there was Hordak and the Horde from He-Man, The Daleks even the Cylon Empire. So The Sith and The Galactic Empire fits right into that camp.

Looking at the original trilogy Jedi was always my favourite, with Empire a close second. New Hope broke the mould when it came to movies and special effects, but the other two were just better stories.

I’m not embarrassed to say, I’m a fan of the prequels. Yes I am! Now the fans would always talk shit about them, but for me the rise of the Sith, and Anakin’s fall gripped me so much you forget the other shit within the films.

The Force Awakens began the new slate of films to the Star Wars, with at least 1 new film every year for the next 5 years. Hooooooooooooooooooooooooray! But lets look at the films we already have.

Everyone would agree the best part of the this film is Darth Maul. The short lived apprentice to Darth Sidious met his grisly end on Naboo at the hands of Obi Wan. Every time I watch this film I always block out the Anakin storyline and instead concentrate on the Sith story. But it is always the duel of fates at the end of the film that still excite even the most hating fan, the moment Maul pulls his double light sabre.

The saga of Star Wars has always been about the light sabre duels, we’ve always seen intense one on one fights. This film focuses more on the love story between Anakin and Padme, but for me it is the battle for geonosis. The first time we see dozens of Jedi Knights fighting together against the droid army.

This film will always be my most favourite of the prequels, always because of my love for Darth Sidious. To watch the plans of the Sith Lord unveil and becoming the Emperor, more exciting than the rise of Darth Vader. So many scenes to choose from here, but to me this was my favourite. Four Jedi Masters sent to take him out(one being Samuel L Jackson) and he takes them out, as well as bring Anakin to the dark side. This is one of those rare movies where the bad guys actually win. More of  this is needed.

Lets face it the minute Darth Vader was announced to appear in Rogue one, the focus and anticipation was on seeing him again on the big screen. Voiced again by James Earl Jones Vader stole the film from only 3 scenes but his presence loomed. I can remember watching the film for time in the cinema, my legs and ADHD sent me loopy as I giggled like a school girl watching the last five minutes of the film. Connecting Rogue One to a New Hope we see Vader in all his glory and power, tearing through the rebel ship like the Terminator. The honourable mention goes to the amazing scenes of Tarkin CGI created, outstanding.  This film was “new” old Star Wars.

The first and the original film, it is the reason why we are here 4o years later still celebrating this film. Its hard for me to limit myself to just one moment in this film, from everything from Vader Vs Obi-Wan to the rebel assault on the Death Star. But this was my all time favourite scene, just because it showed the ruthlessness of The Empire, superbly acted by Peter Cushing as Tarkin.

Every Star Wars fan would agree this is the best moment of Empire.

The final confrontation between Vader and Luke in the presence of Darth Sidious was the best moment in the last film of the original trilogy. Throughout the fight Vader is trying to get Luke to tap into the dark side, and the best moment being when Vader discovers Luke has a twin sister. The music and pace is so powerful this will always be a very important scene to me.

“If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will!”

The Force Awakens was an excellent start to the new era of Star Wars, a lot of the film was spent introducing the new characters as well as bringing back the Legacy cast of the original trilogy. Some fans would say the whole movie is a rehash of  a New Hope but I disagree. My favourite moment of the film is the death of Han Solo by his son, struggling with the pull of the dark and light sides of the force. When I knew Harrison  Ford was coming back to the role I knew he would be killed off, as years before it was his big desire to be killed at the end of Empire.

So this was my best moments from the films, I know every Star Wars would have a completely different list. But these are the reasons I keep watching I look forward to the next five years of films. Happy Star Wars Day everyone.
